Sequrin Technologies Launches Healthcare Claims-Integrity Platform

South African health-tech company unveils a working prototype and opens its design-partner programme for medical schemes and claims-integrity teams.

JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG, SOUTH AFRICA, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Sequrin Technologies (Pty) Ltd, a South African health-technology company focused on healthcare claims integrity, has launched with a working prototype of its investigative intelligence platform and is opening discussions with prospective design partners across the medical-schemes industry.

Sequrin is developing technology intended to help authorised claims-integrity teams investigate potentially suspicious healthcare claiming activity by bringing together analytical signals, relationships between claims and entities, temporal patterns and relevant case context within a governed investigative workspace.

Rather than treating claims integrity as a simple fraud-classification problem, Sequrin is being designed around the principle that an unusual claim, provider pattern or statistical anomaly is an investigative signal — not, by itself, evidence that fraud has occurred.

“Healthcare claims can be extraordinarily complex, and the consequences of getting an investigation wrong can be significant,” said Sbusiso Mdingi, Founder of Sequrin Technologies. “Our objective is not to replace investigators or allow an algorithm to decide that somebody has committed fraud. We want to give investigators better context, clearer relationships and stronger analytical tools with which to make those decisions.”

South African medical schemes paid R259.3 billion in healthcare benefits during 2024 across approximately 9.17 million beneficiaries, according to the Council for Medical Schemes. The scale of the sector means that effective claims-integrity processes must balance the protection of scheme funds with appropriate investigation, clinical context and procedural fairness.

Sequrin is developing its platform to help investigators move beyond individual claims and examine the surrounding context of activity under review. The system is intended to bring together unusual claiming patterns, relationships between relevant entities, longitudinal and temporal information, and explanations showing why particular activity was surfaced.

The platform is designed to remain human-in-the-loop. Sequrin surfaces activity for authorised investigation and provides supporting context; it does not independently determine that fraud has occurred, automatically reject claims, sanction healthcare providers or replace established investigative and governance processes.

Sequrin has developed a working browser and desktop prototype alongside a governed synthetic healthcare-claims environment used for product development and testing. The company has not yet deployed the platform against live medical-scheme claims and is not making claims regarding real-world detection accuracy, financial savings or production performance.

“Our next milestone is not to produce a headline accuracy number from synthetic data,” Mdingi said. “The meaningful test is whether the technology remains useful when evaluated against the realities of claims-integrity work — including false positives, investigator workload, clinical context, explanation quality and operational constraints.”

With the prototype established, Sequrin is now opening its design-partner programme and seeking an initial partner from the South African healthcare funding ecosystem.

The programme is intended for organisations willing to contribute operational and domain expertise to the controlled development and evaluation of the platform before production deployment. Potential participants include medical schemes, administrators, managed-care organisations and healthcare claims-integrity teams.

The initial engagement is expected to focus on existing investigative workflows, product assumptions, clinically and operationally meaningful signals, investigator-facing information and the measures that should be used in subsequent controlled evaluation.
Any progression towards the use of real healthcare data would be subject to appropriate information-governance, privacy, security and organisational approvals.

Sequrin ultimately intends to evaluate the platform using measures reflecting investigative utility rather than model performance in isolation. These include the relevance of surfaced activity, false-positive burden, time required to establish useful case context, investigator effort, explanation completeness and operational reliability.

“Building the technology is only one part of the problem,” Mdingi said. “For something like this to be useful in healthcare, it has to fit the actual investigative environment in which decisions are made. That is why we want the next phase to be developed with the industry rather than in isolation from it.”
