Minister Angie Motshekga delivers keynote address at South African Women in Defence celebration event, 28 Aug

The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Angie Motshekga, will deliver the keynote address at the South African Women in Defence (SAWID) Women’s Celebration Event on Thursday, 28 August 2025 in Centurion, under the theme: “Breaking Barriers, Building the Future.”

The event serves as an important platform to highlight the progress made in recognising and advancing women within the defence industry. Women have increasingly taken up leadership roles, commanded strategic operations, and contributed to technological and industrial innovation within the defence sector, breaking barriers that once seemed insurmountable. 

In the address, the Minister will reaffirm the commitment of the Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans to deepening inclusivity, diversity and transformation within the military and the defence sector as a whole, in line with the values of the Constitution and defence policy frameworks that promote gender equity. 

The Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans looks forward to partnering with the South African Women in Defence (SAWID) and all stakeholders committed to transformation, so that together we continue to build a defence force and defence industry that reflect the full strength and leadership of South Africa’s women.
